I'm not really a big chess fan myself, but a couple of guys who I play poker with are, so I saw a great opportunity to share a once in a lifetime experience with them by inviting them along with me to NY to meet several celebrities including Garry Kasparov, one of the greatest to have ever played Chess. Gerry was scheduled to do a book signing at Barnes & Noble on Firth Avenue in NY. We had arrived at 7am for a 12:30pm book signing and only one person was in line. You never know with these types of events, and with Garry also heavily involved in Russian politics, we weren't sure just what the turnout would be.

Realizing we had some time, we headed over to the Regis and Kelly show to try to meet LeAnn Rimes, Ben Affleck, and Rebecca Romijn. Upon arrival we were able to get Regis Philbin to autograph a guitar. Shortly afterward Rebecca Romijn showed up and looked as stunning as ever. She happily signed nearly everything that was put in front of her. There really weren't that many people waiting for autographs and we managed to get a few signed photos from her. Next was Ben Affleck, notorious for being a really nice signer, however he appeared in no mood for it today. He signed a couple for us and a couple for the others but quickly made haste inside. We weren't able to wait around for LeAnn as I wanted to make sure my friends had a good opportunity to meet Garry.

We arrived back at the Kasparov signing and were still early in line but it quickly escalated behind us and we were lucky we did get there early as they did cut the line off and some walked away empty handed. The first few people in line were able to get additional memorabilia signed in addition to the new book "How Life Imitates Chess". Sadly that was it, as soon as the first few went through they immediately were taking all bags and memorabilia so it was not possible to get anything other than the books signed. It's too bad as it appeared he was more than willing to sign the extra items. We ended up with several books signed and we currently have 3 left for sale.

Determined to get my items signed, I waited until Garry was done signing for all those in line, and kindly asked him to sign a few photos for me on his way out, to which he happily obliged. The photos are incredible and a must see. On the way out, one of the gentleman who was with me, a big fan of Kasparov, also got him to sign a large poster from the signing. Lastly, outside, while he was waiting for his car to pull around, I was lucky enough to have him sign a glass chessboard. AMAZING piece of memorabilia to say the least.

All in all we did very well, walking away with some incredible autographed items for you to purchase. What's more, we were able to camcord Ben Affleck and Rebecca Romijn signing autographs, and get flawless video footage of Garry Kasparov signing each book, as well as the poster. I honestly wasn't sure how well we'd do, concerned with political ties, etc., and security, so I'm very happy with the rare Kasparov items to offer.
