News Content:
Headed over to NY again as one of my favorite bands was there, AC/DC. I’d had great luck with them last tour so I hoped nothing had changed. I did however get some inside information that their signing was sporadic at best, and most of the guys were getting denied. I headed up anyhow as the following day was full of music legends and great events. First goal was to get AC/DC following their performance at Madison Square Garden. First to arrive from the concert was Malcolm Young (guitarist and vocals) who immediately stopped and signed just about everything. He spent a good 10 minutes signing and was really cool. Brian Johnson (lead singer) was next and also started to sign but didn’t spend much time doing so however most everyone got at least one. FYI, there were about 15 fans/collectors/dealers there to get the signatures. We were on hand with helpers and had Gibson SG guitars (Red Wine just like Angus Plays) and took video proof of each guy signing the guitars. Next to arrive was Angus and unfortunately ran right in. I heard that none of them signed on the way to the concert and had a police escort so it was a great night but somewhat disappointing not to get Angus on these lovely guitars.
Next morning we were up bright n early and headed over to the taping of Regis and Kelly and awaited the guests. Kelly Rippa showed up with her daughter in tow and said she was running late and would sign later. We have too many of her already so we didn’t wait. Regis Philbin was nice enough to come over and sign again so we have more on him if you need em cheap. Don Rickles was next and had his car driven right into the garage. Just from seeing him on tv I knew he wasn’t going to do autographs. Plus he’s way up there in age and as I suspected, he didn’t sign 1 autograph. Finally the guest of honor arrived, Hannah Montana’s Miley Cyrus but we immediately spotted her Disney publicist and knew we weren’t getting anything. Her publicist is horrible to the autograph public, insisting that she doesn’t sign anything and again, she proved to live up to her reputation as Miley had always been great to us when that woman wasn’t with her and today she drove in without signing for any of the crowd waiting (which was pretty small, maybe 10 and behind a barricade). She didn’t sign on the way out either but we knew we had several other chances to get her due to her busy schedule that day. Really wish she didn’t have that woman with her though 

Next stop was Sirius Radio where I assume she was doing on-air interviews. She signed a couple guitars for us on the way in with a better than average signature (her signatures often times resemble sideways lines with a squiggle) but this time it was a little more legible. Unfortunately it started to rain and she only signed 1 for us on the way out and then her publicist took a horrible dive into the pavement. Guess her heels on her boots were too slippery for the sidewalk and she went down hard. I’m not a big fan of the woman but I really felt bad for her. She fell hard and all the paparazzi were there as well. She got right up and said she was fine but I know that had to have hurt. Next stop was Z100 radio station where by that time it was down-pouring and she drove into the garage again without signing anything. Last stop that we knew of was MTV to pre-tape for the TRL grand finale. I wasn’t there but I heard she only signed a couple and didn’t do it on the way out. All in all it could have been better but the rain and the presence of her publicist really made it impossible. Still, walking away with some items that will be sure to make a few kids really happy this Christmas is definitely not a bad thing.
Next stop was Borders on Broadway to meet Frank Gifford who was doing a book signing. He was very friendly and signed a few Giants engraved footballs for us as well as a couple books and a couple photos. They limited us to 2 additional items to be signed. All of which we have on videotape and will be included with the purchase. After that we headed over to the David Letterman Show to try to get autographs from Bruce Willis and Sia. Now I know most of you don’t know who Sia is, but she’s getting big now from what I hear. Well we missed Sia by literally 3 seconds and when Bruce Willis showed up he didn’t sign any autographs but said he’d sign on the way out. For those unaware, Bruce is a notoriously bad signer, even making #2 on Autograph Magazine’s WORST SIGNERS LIST. I wasn’t sure if he’d downright lie to this type of crowd so I was left puzzled. In the mean time I was contacted that the Paul Simon (Simon and Garfunkel fame) books from his book signing were going to be pre-signed and went on sale at 4pm. It was now 5pm and I was left with the decision of what to do. AC/DC were likely to leave for the concert at about 4:30pm, the Letterman taping was from 4:30-5:30 so Bruce or Sia could do their taping and leave any minute now, and we had to worry about the book selling out. I figured my best chances were to get the sure thing, go get some books.
We headed to the Barnes and Nobles across town and got a few books so anyone interested, we have the original store receipt and got to choose some of the best signatures. We also have the “Autograph Copy” stickers on the front. Cost are $99 and will go fast. Then we quickly headed back to the Letterman show and were happy to know they were all about to come out. Bruce Willis came out first and true to his word, not only signed, he signed up a storm, working both sides of the barricades and even going back to one side. We got him on a few photos, a guitar (told him I forgot to bring a harmonica to which he smiled), and a few boxing gloves which we will put in a display from Pulp Fiction. Again, all of this comes with video proof so let us know if you are interested in any of these items. Next to come out was Sia and she was excited to sign for us. She signed a few guitars and added a flower to her autograph and we also got it all on video proof.
After that, we were excited to know that we pulled it off. We were able to do ALL of what we had hoped without missing anyone and got to try for autographs from AC/DC on the way to the show. First out was Malcolm Young and then Brian Johnson. We were only there to complete the Gibson guitars so we waved and didn’t bother them. There was only 1 other fan there and he didn’t get any autographs although he didn’t really try hard either. Next out was Angus and again, he didn’t stop to sign. When I approached him one on one, his wife informed me that he had a really bad back and wasn’t doing any autographs. We had hoped to catch them coming back from the show again but I was called and informed they’d be checking into DC that night so I didn’t think they’d be going back to the hotel. In the end, from their several day stay in NY my workers did get a few guitars signed but nothing like the good old days where they’d sign everything. I hope it really is just a bad back and not like Metallica where they went from signing everything to really hit and miss. They will be back again in a week, so time will tell.
Following the AC/DC event we headed over to the Barnes & Noble Paul Simon book signing. As we got there he performed a song and then headed out so we really didn’t have much time. He didn’t do any signings inside the book store but we did get him on his way out to sign several guitars, all of which we again got video proof on. I have to admit, I was ecstatic to see the night was turning out far more successful than the day was. We spent the first 8 hours of the day with only 2 autographs and in the past hour alone we ended up with almost 20!
Next up was the Billy Elliott musical premier where Elton John headlined a decent line-up of celebrities all of which we arrived too late to see going in and most snuck out the back on the way out. We were really only there for Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame. Elton hasn’t signed guitars for us in a long time and Roger Waters had been really nice so we had hoped to get him on a few guitars. We ended up doing this and were able to also get video proof of him signing a Gibson guitar and another really cool silver guitar. It was still raining but we luckily caught him at the overhang at the entrance to the play. We also knew where the after-party would be held so we finally found some free time to go get a burger. After eating we had the decision to either go for AC/DC who may have already checked out, or go to the after-party. We opted for the latter.
Again, the horrible rain would just not let up but we found a nice waiting spot to keep dry and knew that Roger Waters was inside so he was again our #1 goal. We waited patiently and were rewarded with 3 more guitars signed by Roger Waters with photo proof this time. For some reason I couldn’t get the video to work. Talk about high-pressure panic. Of all the times for this to happen but as I stated, I whipped out the camera and got flawless proof on 2 of the 3 guitars being signed so definitely a great day in NYC and some exciting items to offer my customers. All of the guitars that we got signed that day were non-strat styles. We have gold bodied Les Paul styles, wood grained wild shaped bodies, silver guitars with mother of pearl bird inlays, Gibson SG guitars, just so many incredible guitars that I really am excited to have these to offer and especially with the unbeatable proof we’ll be including. Be sure to check out our Youtube page where we post our videos. We have several more to add and hopefully by the time you are reading this, these videos will be up there as well.
